GOLD and Green

Carnival 2006

Do you have a problem with wasps or ants?  Would you know who to ring?

Do you know exactly what can be recycled and what cannot?

The Environment Group looks at issues that affect all to all residents of Darlington, but which are of particular interest to people over the age of 50.

Issues which have been identified as areas of concern by this group are:

  • Waste management – looking into locating shredders in public places for all to use to dispose of paperwork containing personal details
  • Recycling – members wish to make younger people more aware of the benefits of recycling
  • Pest control
  • Let's Get Cracking - the Councils improvements to the towns roads

We have regular speakers to the group on subjects as varied as birds, and what we can do to help them, through to Waste management. It is a lively group with members who take a keen interest in their surroundings and what can be done to improve them.

Members have been on a guided Tree Walk around the South Park which was very interesting - we learned the Latin names for many of the trees, thanks to Debbie, one of the Park Rangers.

The speaker at the November meeting is Sue Archer from Archers Ice Cream Factory who is going to tell us about her work.

The Economy and Environment Group meets at Havelock Street Community Centre on the third  Wednesday of every month, from 10.30pm until 12.30pm.
