GOLD members trying out bellydancing
This annual free event gives people the opportunity to try a range of 'taster sessions' of alternative therapies including reflexology, head massage, aromatherapy and accupunture. A range of information about all kinds of health issues will be available with professionals on hand to talk to people about their individual concerns, including healthy eating, Osteoporosis, Coronary Heart disease and many more. Visitors also get the opportunity to join in GEM exercises, try Tai Chi, or stretch out with a yoga session.
A report on the 2007 Positive Health Day
The members of this group organised this year's Positive Health Day which was held at Darlington Football Stadium on Wednesday, September 26th. Over 100 people had free 'taster' sessions of alternative therapies which included Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Reiki, Head Massage, Swedish Massage and Iridology. Everyone who tried them agreed that they felt much better afterwards!
There were information stalls covering a range of health related topics and visitors could have their blood pressure taken, get advice about their feet or find out what equipment is available for people with a hearing or sight impairment.
Some visitors joined in with the demonstrations of exercise opportunities which were Kurling and Boccia (both of which are played sitting down) Belly Dancing, Tai Chi and GEM Exercises. All of these are great fun as well as being good gentle exercise which can be done by people with limited mobility.
The event was well attended and we are looking forward to seeing you all at next year's Positive Health Day.
